Set in over an acre, surrounded by forest.
RHINEFIELD BOTHY COTTAGE
This large holiday cottage in the New Forest sleeps 18 guests in it's 8 bedrooms and is completely surrounded by the New Forest, sharing it's acre and a quarter of gardens with Vine Cottage which sleeps 10. A comfortable single storey building and large conservatory, it is located on Rhinefeld Ornamental Drive, Brockenhurst. Rhinefield Bothy will also sleep groups of 14 and 16. The nearest neighbours are at Rhinefield House (see the surrounding area), and there have been dwellings on this site since William the Conqueror proclaimed the area the qNew Forestq in about 1097.
This rambling holiday cottage has been extended and comfortably refurbished with large groups requiring self catering accommodation in mind. The open plan dining and kitchen area is in the refurbished conservatory.
The dining table comprises two tables joined together to make a long dining table large enough to accommodate 18 dinner guests. Measuring approximately 16 feet in length and four feet in width, there is another table stored at Rhinefield which can be added on request, enabling 28 guests to dine together when Rhinefield and Vine holiday cottages are booked together.
The large, bright open space (approx 10m x 5m / 32ft x 16ft) also comfortably houses the open plan kitchen area which has stainless steel preparation surfaces, free standing base units and sink from Ikea.
The appliances include twin stainless steel gas cookers, twin dishwashers, one full height fridge, a split fridge/freezer, microwave and plenty of other equipment to prepare and serve. A full kitchen inventory is provided in the information pack
The lounge is accessed through the french doors from the dining area, (measuring approx 5.5m x 4.5m (18ft x 15ft) and has three large sofas, some comfortable chairs and two further sets of french doors to the front of the property, making this room quite bright. Additional seating is dotted around the house and guests are able to bring chairs, stools and seats in from other rooms to seat large numbers of guests.
The lounge also features a large log burner - we do try to keep a ready supply of kindling and logs available to guests in the winter months, but these may be unavailable in the summer!
Stepping outside from either of the sets of double doors we face towards the large decking area with central fountain for guests to sit and enjoy the fresh New Forest air. The front garden area here is easily accessed from the lounge, and the usable space lends itself well to relaxing outside as the sun goes down in this secluded location.
For many years this area has been well-fed for birds, with bird-feeders and an aviary and seems to be home to many common species such as Nuthatches, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Coal Tits, Chaffinches and Greenfinches. The odd pheasant has also been spotted stumbling on through. Birdfeed is left for guests to feed the birds.
As well as an abundance of birdlife, there is all the expected ground-based wildlife of the forest in the garden - rabbits have taken up residence in the bank at the rear of the garden (approx 30 yards from the house), moles are, quite literally, having a field day and the foxes are obviously regularly turning up to try and out-wit the rabbits! A herd of around thirty deer (including one white deer, possibly a roe) have wandered past on occasions and the Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary is only a mile or so away.
